Help me give my students page turning books to add to our classroom library! I would love to fill our classroom library with a variety of leveled texts that my students can access.
1st grade is an exciting yet pivotal part of a students academic career. Some of my students are connecting the dots and learning how to, and progressing in, reading, writing and math while others are still working on number recognition and letter sounds.
In this classroom, beyond academics, we focus on having compassion for others, communicating, developing our independence and being kind.
All of these have helped build a strong community within our classroom that has extended into their everyday lives.
We are a part of a larger school, being one of six 1st grade classes. Our school serves students with outstanding challenges at home that affect their success in the classroom. My classroom is about raising young and independent adults who know how awesome and capable they are. Everyday, I try to be the best teacher I can be by supporting my students in any way they need whether it be academically, socially, or emotionally while along the way, celebrating every little success.
My Project
A classroom library is one of the most important parts of a classroom. A classroom library gives students the independence and freedom to choose what books they read for the week. They have independent reading time everyday where they get to get lost in and explore new books.
As their teacher, I strive to help my students develop a love for reading.
In developing this love, it's important that students have access to books that fit their interests as well as their reading levels. Being a first year teacher, our library isn't as full as most; especially in the lower levels. Nothing improves reading more than simply reading. By giving my students books at their reading level, they will be able to continue improving their reading skills.
