Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Popular slogans, drawings and art are routinely used to promote and educate others on a variety of topics. I would like for my students to promote learning about important civil rights activist and multicultural acceptance with campaign buttons.
I have the pleasure of being the teacher to 24 smart, enthusiastic 1st grade students.
Students who are excited to learn, and are gaining the necessary skills needed to become life long learners. 100% of my students participate in the free lunch program. They come from low income working class families that live in or close to one of Los Angeles low income housing complexes.
My Project
Unfortunately my students live in an area where they don't always hear positive things about people from their culture. I would like to expose them to civil rights leaders who did something positive for our country. I want them to see that even though we might look different and have different customs, we are all people and what matters is their character. I would like to request buttons to use with a button making machine. After my students learn about civil rights activists and understand other cultures, they will make campaign buttons, promoting multicultural acceptance. They will also make buttons about civil rights activists, promoting their work like MLK's dream and Cesar Chavez' campaign for fair treatment of all races.
Thank you for reading this proposal.
If you decide to donate you will be helping my students learn about important civil rights leaders. They will also understand that our society is made up of a variety of cultures, and acceptance of all is what will make our society prevail and continue the civil rights dream. My students will have an opportunity to help inform others on this important topic with the campaign buttons that they will be making as well. Thank you!
