This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Having your students film a project on their own is hard... when you don't have cameras for them to use. By getting small Flip cameras, students can take them out of the class room to film interviews, sporting events and countless other things. They are small and durable, making them good for kids.

The students at my school are inner city kids who do not have much in their lives.

Through our video production program (which we just started), we are trying to inspire them to seek out new career avenues in life. In the world of video production there are numerous jobs available that are very achievable for our students. We also hope to use the program to teach them teamwork and the skills to use their creativity to create something from scratch. The school itself is a level 4 school, meaning it is in danger of closing from poor test scores. The program was started to hopefully encourage kids with a different outlet to let them express themselves and hopefully find an interest and passion in life. The long term goal is to have a flourishing department that will keep students interested in school and make them want to do better in their own lives.

My Project

As of right now, the department has very little equipment. In fact we don't even have enough equipment to film a full production. We have a few left over pieces from an old program that is outdated and mostly unusable. While we have been teaching the kids every aspect of production, they have yet to have the chance to film anything themselves. In a way, its like having cooking classes that you never actually cook anything in!

It has been extremely hard running a video program without the equipment.

The students are so excited to film something, but they have yet been able to due to the fact that we do not have equipment. Its crushing having to tell them that they will not be able to film their projects they have been working so hard on.
