Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach high school photography and publications/yearbook. My students are amazing! They are kind, caring, and inquisitive. My students come from very diverse backgrounds, and many have not had it easy. All of my students are choosing to be part of the photography and yearbook classes. I know that my students deserve to have an amazing photography and yearbook program. With your help, my students can have the photography and yearbook classes they deserve. Students gain so much from experiencing the arts, please help me give my students what they need to be successful.
My Project
My publications photojournalists and photography students need new camera straps. Currently, we have a lot of cameras missing straps or straps in really bad shape. We need to replace all the straps for our digital and film cameras. It's important we have new straps so that our cameras stay safe and around the neck of students. We already received some supplies but realized it was not enough to finish our straps. We would like leather for the strap pieces, fabric for lenses covers, leather tools to make holes in the leather so we can sew them together, leather letter stamps to stamp our school name, batting to make the straps comfortable, and leather thread to sew the all together. We decided to make the straps because this is cheaper than buying high quality straps. This also allows us the customize our straps, and make them in our school colors.
My publications students are the photojournalists for the school, telling the story of everything that has happened, and that will be remembered for decades to come.
It's important that we have good sturdy straps for our cameras so that they do not fall and get damaged.
Journalism is really important to my students future, they not only are learning how to take great pictures that tell a story, they are also learning how to write a good story, this will help them do well in college, and career. They also are learning about real life deadlines which builds time management skills.
