My First Graders are stars! They are learning how to present projects, poems, and plays to their peers and the school community. With this camera, students will be able to watch their presentations, reflect on their own strengths, and determine what they need to work on next.
I teach First Grade at a Charter School in a very low income area of New York.
My students come from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds. Many students come from homes where English is a second language. We are working hard to build fluency and speaking skills. The ability to express one's thoughts is crucial to success in school and in life.
It is so important for students to be able to express their opinions clearly and to read and speak fluently. Luckily, our students love to be in front of a camera! This is the perfect opportunity to build an amazing learning experience. With a video camera, we will be able to record readers' theater productions, poems, and project presentations. Later, students will be able to view their work and see for themselves what aspects were successful and what they still need to work on. This self-reflection will be immensely valuable.
Public Speaking is a skill that is increasingly crucial to success.
Seeing and hearing themselves speak on video will be an amazing way for students to improve their abilities to speak in public fluently and with confidence. This project will make a difference for these First Graders that will last a lifetime.
