Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The students come from hard-working, low-income families. Many of our students come from families where the parents work long hours, and students are unable to make it to the library by themselves. The community surrounding our school can be unsafe, therefore many parents don’t allow their children to walk by themselves to the library to borrow books or to the store to purchase books. Sometimes the families of our students do not have enough money to purchase food, basic necessities, or school supplies, let alone books.
In order to give students easier access to books, I would like to fund a classroom library so students can borrow books that they are interested in reading.
With our books, the students can develop vocabulary, critical, thinking skills, and widen their consciousness. Our classroom library will help strengthen self-confidence in the classroom, help us understand who we are, and understand where we come from. Our classroom library is going to give students the opportunity to share cultural experiences, and be more open about customs, culture, and be informed about world issues.
