My Students

I teach third grade and my students are 8-9 years old. We opened up a brand new elementary school during a pandemic! My students are hard workers and are very resilient. They learn from their mistakes and work hard. I am amazed at how much my students can grow every single day! Third grade rocks!

My Project

It is an emotional and stressful time for all during this pandemic. Students aren't exempt from feeling the stress and uncertainty during this time. In Utah, schools shut down at the beginning of March until the end of the school year last spring. The message kids heard was "stay home, stay safe". Now, a new school year begins and kids are in person 4 days a week in my district with some students being invited for in person learning on Fridays. In order to be in school, students have to wear a mask and do extensive cleaning and hand washing all day long to help slow the spread of COVID-19. My students' mental and emotional well-being have been impacted immensely.

I would like tools and resources that can help my students understand their big feelings and help them calm down during troubling situations.

I would like books to help teach my students about their feelings and ways to calm down during times of stress or frustration. I would like various tools to help give my students sensory experiences to help them when they are struggling. I will create a safe place in my classroom where students can access these tools when they need to use them. I would also like organizational tools to help organize these tools and resources.

I have seen how my students have been negatively impacted mentally and emotionally because of the pandemic. I would love to help give them tools and strategies that will help them not only just this year but in years to come.
