My Students
Our students have been through a traumatic experience this year with Hurricane Harvey. We have families still displaced after the storm. Despite the stress, anxiety, loss, and other changes and challenges our community experienced with Hurricane Harvey, our students are always eager to come to school. They are kind, helpful, loving, and excited to learn. School is their safe place with lots of positive interactions, routines, and structure from PK - 4th grade. We truly are a school family that focuses not only on academics, but the social and emotional needs of our students as well.
My Project
Our students have been through such a traumatic experience this year with Hurricane Harvey. That's why it is so important to provide a safe, predictable, and loving environment at school and teach them strategies to manage their upset.
We need a laptop computer for students to practice online calming and mindfulness activities that is accessible whether they are in a classroom, the counselor's office, library, hallway, or various areas of the building.
The laptop would also allow parents access to the activities to practice with their child at school and then at home. The large cuddly teddy bear will bring comfort to the children who need some extra support in managing their anxiety and emotions caused by post-Harvey living changes, as well as additional upsets such as loss of a parent and other events.
Please help bring a little TLC to our students who are recovering from such a scary event in their lives. Providing them with a safe space and the tools to teach them calming strategies will help them be successful in the classroom, at home, and in the future.
