My Project

I teach at a school that hosts lots of students with specials needs. These students are included within homeroom classrooms when they come to related arts. They have times where they get overwhelmed and need to take a break. I would like to create an area in the corner of my classroom for them to be calm and relax.

I want to create a space where students feel safe and have sensory items that they can use to calm their mind and relax in times of anxiety and overwhelmed feelings so they can come back and join the class.

I would like to create this area in the corner of my classroom with a comfy rug. I will have a sequin wall which is always a favorite in elementary school. I will have liquid tiles on the floor for them to walk across. I will have the drawers along the wall with labels that will indicate the selection of sensory items for the students to choose from. I plan to create posters and imagery to make the space fell cozy and add to the sensory items as I go.
