Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I would like to get some more materials that can help me teach calming strategies to my students and have on hand for in an event when a student is having big feelings. These will be added to my calm down corner to help improve and support diverse thinkers, growers, and learners. Every week I have an SEL lesson that is built into my schedule so the tapestry will be used to help students actively identify their feelings and regulate. The books will help to teach certain SEL concepts to the students each week. The canopy is something I am really excited about as you know students are very nosy and want to know everything this gives the student who is having big feelings or just needs a break some privacy to focus on themselves at that moment.
Most of the other items that I have chosen I will teach the students strategies on how to use the materials appropriately and have them as tools in our calm down area.
These tools range from something you can run your fingers across for sensory needs, a weighted stuffy, and a breathing exercise tool. All of which I think would get good use and create a calmer and more thoughtful classroom environment.
