This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

In teaching Kindergarten Special Education, I am continuously working with students to help them regulate their emotions. Social Emotional learning must be taught, just as academics are taught. So many students enter Kindergarten with limited social emotional skills. We must assume that they do not understand their big feelings or how to cope with these overwhelming feelings.

I would like to provide my students with a comfortable chair and a calming carpet to utilize in our Calm Down Corner.

The deep breathing visual on the carpet will be a wonderful visual cue to remind students to take a deep breath. A variety of these breathing techniques are modeled and practiced daily.
