Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This calming corner will give my kindergarten, special education students a safe and peaceful place to go when they’re feeling overwhelmed or need a break. My goal is that it will help them calm their bodies, understand their emotions, and get ready to learn again.
What makes my students so special is how hard they try every single day.
Even when things feel big or tough, they show up with bright smiles, and so much curiosity. They feel things deeply, and sometimes they just need a little help figuring out what those feelings mean and how to handle them.
The 8 Mini Emotion Plush Toys and A Little SPOT of Feelings book will help my students talk about their feelings and learn what to do when they feel upset. The book It’s Okay to Not Feel Okay will remind them that all feelings are normal and it’s okay to talk about them.
The Plush Axolotl Stuffed Animals will be calming desk pets and soft fidgets that give comfort during tough moments.
For my students who need to move their bodies, a small trampoline in the calming corner will let them take a quick body break to release energy in a safe way. This will help them come back to learning more focused and calm.
This calming corner will give my students the tools and space they need to feel supported, safe, and ready to learn.
