This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach early childhood special education in a low income area. Many of my students do not have the opportunity to have a calming, consistent environment that would encourage learning, growth, and development. I want my students to know that I care and that I support them by giving them the learning materials they deserve to have in the classroom.
My students have big feelings are are just beginning to learn how to self soothe.
I am requesting a giant pillow, beanbag seat, tactile sensory panels and other calming tools and materials to handle their big feelings. My students need fidget toys, weighted stuffed animals, and flexible seating in order to be able to calm down their bodies when they are upset. These items would encourage self help strategies and social emotional development.
My students would greatly benefit from the materials I have selected in this list. All of my students would learn positive ways to handle big feelings in the classroom.
