Help me give my students a carpet for our calm corner in the school counselor's office, so they may have a cozy, safe place to chill while practicing a coping strategy, to self-regulate.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Of course, intense feelings take over sometimes, especially, when you are young. As the school counselor, it is my duty to help students identify the feeling, as well as help with regulating it. In other words, I help my students CALM DOWN. It's super important to have a space that can assist in the calming or self-regulating process. My goal is to create a space of comfort in my room where students can visit throughout the day, have a seat and think, indulging in the many coping materials I planned to have at the ready. A place where just for a moment, they feel as if they have escaped the woes at hand and have entered a place of zen and safeness, so they can get back to the important stuff like learning and playing with peers.
I would truly appreciate your help with the items I have selected, as I know they will aid in creating the space I envision.
