My class is a preschool inclusion classroom. It is made up of both special education and general education students ranging from ages 3-5.
"The biggest risk of NOT including a child with disabilities is that we limit EVERYONE'S potential as human beings" -The Inclusive Class.
In my class, students understand and embrace each others differences. Both my general education and special education students have been able to build a community of learners where every student is included in work and play.
My Project
Preschool is such an emotional time for kids. For many of my students, it is the first time they are away from their parents. Social-Emotional development is an integral part of any preschool classroom. In preschool, children have to learn to manage their emotions in a classroom full of their peers.
By donating to my classroom, I will be able to create a "calming corner" that will be a space for my students to manage their emotions.
Creating a more comfortable and welcoming space for my students will greatly improve emotional development and better equip them with the skills they will need in school.
My class needs a bean bag chair to be a comfortable place for my students to retreat to when needing to calm down. We also need timers to watch to not only help calm them but also to give a structure and time frame they need to calm themselves. I plan for the "calming corner" to also have tools to help calm my students like bubbles for taking deep breaths, play dough and other fidgets, along with picture cards to provide students with strategies for calming themselves.
