This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My class is a Pre-K inclusion class serving many students with special needs. My students are a mix of 3-5 year old students with varying personalities. My goal as a teacher is to try to find each and everyone of my students strength and weaknesses and try to make them even better.
Many of the students come from different backgrounds.
Miami is called a melting pot for a reason. My school is a title 1 school. Many of my students receive free and reduced lunch.
My Project
Throughout the day my students because of their disability as well as their age tend to have "meltdowns". They become overwhelmed or over stimulated throughout the day. Some times what causes the meltdown could be something as simple as they took my crayon. Other students sometimes get overstimulated just with an activity that might be more hands on and require a lot of movement.
With the tables I will be able to create an area that students can go to and have space and be able to focus with little distraction.
When my students become overwhelmed they can use the tee-pee as a calming corner in my classroom. The tee-pee can be their safe place when needed.
