Calming Corner in Preschool

My Project

A calming space is so essential in a child's early years! We all need a calming space with soft rugs, pillows, fidget items and calming items to use when we get upset. Please help me provide these special items for my students. The calming area will be a haven for my students to de-escalate from their strong emotions. The calming items will allow students to work on identifying their emotions and practice calming techniques. My students have a range of needs that impact their ability to understand and self-regulate their emotions. We need these in our classroom.

This year, my students require more SEL support and would be best supported with a calming corner in the classroom as it will promote a safe space where students can manage their emotions by tuning out the rest of the class; children will be able to read books about feelings, using sensory viewers, sensory rings and fidgets.

Having tools available for my children to use will make for a more whole-child teaching experience with a strong focus on mental health.
