This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a special education teacher, I often have to teach and help my students calm down and focus with calming tools. When my students become frustrated, they tend not to work and might want to leave the room. The calming corner in the room will allow my students to be creative. The beads and bracelet making kits will help the students refocus and think about a different way to approach a difficult day. Working with their hands will help to create an atmosphere of calm and tranquility in a personal space within the classroom. This will eliminate the students wanting to leave the room and instead, go to the calming space. When the students focus on beading, they will be able to leave the negative thoughts behind and create a bracelet that will change their moods to a happy one.
Teaching the students how to redirect their emotions in a more positive way is needed, especially with the uncertain future they are facing.
