This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Teaching upper elementary carries a special weight. Students are starting to have real emotions and conflicts that they must learn to handle. It is our responsibility to help them navigate these emotions in a healthy way.
The items in this project will ensure the students have a calm environment in which to process their emotions.
Each day, when students arrive, they will receive an affirmation card. We will spend our morning meeting internalizing the affirmation and returning to it throughout the day. We will also spend time completing lessons from the SEL workbook to better handle conflicts that arise internally or externally. The oils will help create a calming atmosphere. The lamp will be used to subtly tell students what their voice level should be.
