Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am requesting acrylic light covers to cover our flourescent lights in our teams 4 special education classrooms. We have students that come in and out of our rooms all day with varying levels of special needs. Many of my students have sensory needs and the fluorescent lights are so extra bright. If I turn off the lights our room is too dark. I am also requesting a wiggle seat and kick bands. I am also requesting a tall drafting chair. This is to accommodate our Paraprofessionals supporting students at a standing desk. They either have to stand with their students the entire time or sit and stand every time the student needs help. Some of our students have needed the paraeducators to do all of the keyboard work for them. It would be more beneficial for our students if their paraeducators could sit at the same height. I am also requesting a speaker to help us facilitate our IEP meetings with our students and families. We work at a low income school with a lot of students whose parents don't speak English. Our translators are not on site and call in via Google Meet. Right now we are passing around a laptop so the translator can hear whoever is talking but it interferes with a fluid conversation because we have to pass it when we need to talk. This speaker would greatly help our special education team better meet our students needs.
