Help me give my students weighted animals to help them calm down when they feel overwhelmed. These animals provide light pressure on their lap, provide sensory input through texture of the material and filling.

My Students
I teach students with a variety of sensory and academic needs in an urban elementary school. My students come to my classroom for support in academics, sensory and behavioral concerns. They often work independently, in small groups or individually with an adult to accomplish their academic task.
My students are energetic, curious and knowledge seeking.
Our school is a large public school where 100% of our students receive free or reduced price lunch due to the economic needs of our families. As a school we have a 74% passing rate for state appointed standardized tests. My students have needs beyond basic academics. They seek support regulating sensory input, organization, emotional stability, and social skills. My students work to make steps to success every day. Sometimes they need items to help them regulate their emotions.
My Project
My students face difficulty in regulating their emotions on their own throughout the school day. We work in small groups and individually to gain skills to stay focused in the school environment. There are a variety of options - exercises, conversations, breathing, weighted objects for carrying or comforting that can be utilized.
Weighted objects can be an amazing sensory tool to improve our students focus, attention and ability to calm independently.
Utilizing these weighted objects helps students that struggle with sitting for organized activities. They can use these objects in their general education classrooms during whole group instruction. They can also be used in a calming corner along with deep breaths and additional calming techniques. These weighted animals can be shared among many students since they are used for brief amounts of time throughout their day.
Thank you for supporting my students in taking steps to independently regulate their emotions. These steps allow my students to progress academically and socially . Your support is appreciated by our students and our staff to provide materials that make a difference in our success.
