My Project
As I design a classroom that is conducive to learning for my students with complex support needs, I aim to create a space that is both comfortable and functional. I am fortunate to have a big classroom enough to cater to the individual needs of my students. However, don’t have a designated space for them to have privacy when dealing with stress, anxiety, and meltdowns. In order to help my students cope with various emotions, I plan to provide a space with a set of sensory items that can assist them in calming themselves and managing their feelings.
Being able to supply my students with a calming space in the classroom with new materials and tools will elevate their classroom engagement, and motivation to learn and bring meaning to their education.
The requested shelves and cabinets will serve as walls for the space that I will create as their calming center. The shelves will have bins with sensory items, readings, mats, and toys that are readily available to students to use while they have their time at the calming center. The combination of private space and sensory materials will provide them endless opportunities to learn and develop self-esteem.
