Calming Center and Friendship Room

Help me give my students a space for them to feel relaxed and comfortable. Having the carpets and comfortable furniture helps my students feel less anxious and welcomed.

My Project

I am really looking forward to the weighted stuffed animals. My students that have difficulties with anxiety really enjoy items like the weighted animals. When they are feeling upset or emotionally escalated, these weighted animals are helpful in giving them extra support to de-escalate.

Since Covid-19, students have relied so much on their phones and have been isolated from creating deep and healthy friendships.

This effect has continued through the years returning to school. Returning to school after Covid-19 has also been more stressful than previous years and these students often need support to manage their stress. That is why these items are so important in the work that I do. My students are amazing, but they grow up often with so many difficult situations and being able to provide safe spaces for them is so rewarding.

The other items I'm requesting will assist me in creating a more comfortable space for my students. The rugs help create place for students to sit and bond with each other. In the past 2 years, I have been able to create a room where students feel relaxed and within that environment, they have built new friendships that they otherwise wouldn't have build. The papasan chair cover and bean bag chair covers are helpful to keep my room clean (easily washable) as well as again making the students feel at home. The coffee table is helpful as we frequently play games to support peer relationship building on the floor and will use the coffee table in those games.

As part of my final request, I'm requesting to have some snacks. My goal is to create a welcoming and safe environment for clubs, group sessions, and informal times for student to build relationships, the snacks are always helpful in supporting that goal.
