Calming Break Room

Help me give my students the supplies needed to make a calming, mock break room.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Molly's classroom raised $793

My Project

We are developing a calming break room that not only provides a sensory-friendly retreat for students who need a quiet space, but also integrates a vocational setting to promote life skills and independence. This space will serve as a dual-purpose environment, offering both relaxation and hands-on learning opportunities in a supportive setting.

Our goal is to foster independence, confidence, and career readiness while ensuring a supportive, stress-free experience.

This space will support students who require a calming environment while also helping develop real-world skills for future employment. By integrating vocational elements, we will empower students to build confidence and independence in an stress-free setting.

A mock break room for special needs students serves as a structured, yet calming environment where they can practice essential life and vocational skills while also having a space to self-regulate and decompress. This initiative helps students develop independence, social skills, and job readiness in a safe and supportive setting.

The calming break room will be a realistic workplace setting where students can learn and practice tasks such as organizing supplies, using kitchen appliances, cleaning up, and time management. It will also encourage workplace etiquette like taking appropriate breaks, following routines, and interacting with peers and supervisors while offering a calming retreat for students to take breaks when feeling overwhelmed, helping them return to tasks with renewed focus.
