This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My elective art class consists of all special education students with a variety of disabilities. We are a Title I school, where students are able to receive free lunch and breakfast. My school consists of almost 2,000 students, many who speak various languages. While language may be a challenge, Art is something all cultures can relate to.
Students in my school face many challenges and often see school as a fun and exciting place to be.
Art should be one of their most favorite classes where they can express themselves individually and grow creatively as a young adult.
My Project
These materials will make a difference in my students' learning because it will provide them with a calming outlet for any anxiety or frustration they may be feeling. It is difficult to transition to a Middle School and art can be fun and soothing! There is such a difference between painting on copy paper and using a beautiful canvas. We will be following in the footsteps of artists such as George Seurat and Jackson Pollack. We will paint to express our individuality, creativity, and emotions. My students will then take these concepts and apply them in other subject areas for projects and hopefully outside of the classroom for relaxation or leisure and home!
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
