This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

During these past few years of COVID and many changes in the classroom, it has been very difficult to teach my students how to manage their emotions and foster their Social Emotional development with the limited manipulatives and resources we are provided. Some of my students have NEVER been in a classroom setting and it is all new to them. Imagine your first day of school being scared and unable to communicate. The first couple of weeks are the hardest and I would love to give my kids an area where they feel safe and their emotions are validated with pictures and sensory calming fidgets and toys to calm them as well as a space specifically for that purpose. Part of Social Emotional development is labeling emotions and I would love to foster this seeing as some of my students are nonverbal or have speech delays these items would give them the opportunity to help me understand how they are feeling. With my students learning about their feelings it will be better to help me when trying to have them socialize with me and their peers. The items such as a Privacy Cube and room divider with weighted lap pad, will benefit every student returning to my classroom as well as new ones to the classroom.
