My Project

Welcome to Classroom K6! My name is Mrs. Landeros, and I teach a Preschool For All Learners classroom which has students with Moderate to Severe disabilities. My students are wonderful little human beings that have different disabilities such as autism, intellectual disability, and other health impairments. Due to these disabilities my little learners have many social emotional needs! At times these emotional needs hinder their ability to focus and concentrate in the classroom when they are doing any learning activities.

With these requested materials I will be able to create a "Calm Area" for my students to calm their bodies, gather their thoughts and feelings, release some energy, communicate their emotions to adults nearby and ultimately feel safe in and to feel better to continue their learning.

I am requesting materials such as the sand and water table and flexible seating yoga ball chairs which my students will utilize to calm their bodies when they are overstimulated in my classroom. I have requested Thoughts and Emotions posters and sentence completion cards for the students in my class that have limited communication skills to be able to look at and communicate how they are feeling to any adults in the classroom.

My students are very little but are filled with BIG emotions that they cannot express many times. For this reason I have also requested a Feelings Little Book of Big Emotions and Express Yourself Sensory fidget bottles. The students can read this book and see that characters in stories also feel many emotions and how they cope with them. They can follow up with Sensory toys that will also aid in overstimulation and calming them down and eventually allow them return to their learning activities.
