Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a proud teacher of 25 fifth grade dual language students who work hard and love learning. They are students who come from hard working families who want the best for the children. These students work hard in both English and Spanish. They are learning the importance of growth mindset and the magic of the word, "YET!"

I want to provide them with a calming area in which they will have an opportunity to calm down, feel safe, and take care of their mental health.

In this calming area there will be a rug, positive message pillows, fidget toys, and resources to calm down when they are having a difficult day not only with behavior but when things are difficult at home and they just want to feel safe. This calm and safe place will be located inside our classroom in which all students will have access too. I will teach them about the importance of being accountable of their space and together make it a special and important place in our room. The carpet will set our calming area aside from our classroom, the pillows will allow them to feel at home, the stuff animals will be their buddies to talk too, or just feel heard, and the fidget toys will help them destress. Lastly, we will decorate this area with positive messages via posters and student created decoration.

Help us create a calming area in our classroom. Our fifth graders are our elementary leaders yet they are still our kids. Mental health and growth mindset will be key in our classroom.
