Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are all struggling readers. They are awesome hardworking kids who need extra help in reading. Because of their struggle with reading, their emotions often run high. They are easily frustrated and often want to give up. Calming areas have shown to reduce stress, anger, anxiety, and frustration.
The items I've requested will help me build a designated calming area for my students.
This area in my classroom will allow my students to take a quick "calm down time" to manage their emotions. The area will be designed so that they they may do an activity that will help them alleviate their distress and get back to learning. The activities will consist of stress free tasks like building legos, breathing exercises, reading books, etc.
Having this area filled with simple, quiet activities will help them learn to identify and manage their feelings. Eventually they will be able to self regulate their emotions and get back to learning.
