This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My class deserves a quiet and calming area. This group of fabulous students are all students with disabilities and many of them have trouble regulating their emotions and senses. The bean bags and wireless speaker (with calming music provided) will be in the area for students to use to de-escalate throughout their day.
In addition to a calming area in the classroom, I also want to provide the students with sensory bins with a variety of tools to help calm their bodies.
These bins might include sensory items with a variety of textures, dough activities, kinetic sand, etc. These would be used as part of all my students sensory diets. The sensory diet will allow the students to be ready during academic times to learn to the best of their ability.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
