Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The items requested will be used to create a Calm Center at my school. The Calm Center will help meet my student's social and emotional needs. The Calm Center will be open during lunch and in the mornings. I will also use the space to run anxiety and depression groups and support students who are anxious or struggling with emotions and need to take a break from the commotion of the lunch period. Because making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them to be their best self. All the materials requested will be put to use immediately. These items are items that will help them calm down by providing them with an inviting and safe space along with teaching them skills for emotional regulation. The furniture provided will allow students to relax their bodies. Fidget spinners and stress balls help students release pinned up energy. Stress balls by providing an easy release of this pent-up energy and tension. Legos and stacking blocks will allow students to practice focusing on the present.
