This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are awesome! We work individually and we do a lot of group work. Some students have a competitive style and others may feel their fast pace is frustrating. Students need to take a moment and take some time for themselves. An area where they can recharge and refocus, like a nice “ Calming Area” would be just the place. A space away from their group. We have a rug and need a rug pad to make this surface cozy and soft. We need an area where they can go that is not their desk/group area. Students need time away from their neighbor or friends to adjust, to think, or to enjoy our calming area. Seeing an area that is visually pleasing can be used for so many activities during the day: a place to calm down, to sit in a nice cozy bean bag chair or lean on a pillow, a place to relax, a place to take a moment when feeling tired, or not getting along with our seat partner. Journals to write about why things are not going their way, or describe what happened. Fidget items to help individuals find calmness This area can also be a place for groups to talk it out, a change of seating, as well as, a silent place to read. Our chairs are a hard surface and great cozy seating like bean bag chairs and pillows would be a nice cozy, calming change of scenery complete with easy lighting and poster to remind us what a good day looks like all within the classroom, to help our room not feel so sterile.
