Help me give my students a designated space and the tools they need in order to learn about and regulate their emotions with liquid floor tiles, flexible seating, and more.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We all feel frustrated, tired, anxious, or sad sometimes. It is important for children to learn how to recognize and address these feelings constructively when they experience them.
This project will create a designated calming area in my classroom for children to go and use to regulate themselves.
The calming area will be defined by a nature rug and comfortable bean bag and floor seats.
In order for my students to utilize the calming area effectively, I will first teach them about their feelings using the social emotional and best behavior board book collections. Then I will model for them how to use the Hoberman sphere, wonder wands, and pop play tools to calm their breathing which in turn will calm their bodies and minds.
With your support the calming area in my classroom will be a place where students can go and learn to cope and thrive when they experience strong feelings.
