My students need games and activities that make learning coping skills fun and exciting. My students need a calm and neatly organized therapeutic environment as a retreat when the daily stresses become overwhelming.
For many of my students, having access to a wide variety of coping skills is the key to their success. I am a social Worker at Title 1 School in Washington, DC where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. As a social worker, i not only provide social emotional and behavior support services to students, I also assist teachers with strategies and methods for reaching every student in their on an individualized level.
Despite their many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best.
They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful. My office is a place for calming and regrouping...it's a space for learning new skills that will carry over into their daily lives.....it's a space for student to be vulnerable and honest....it's a safe place for students and adults. My students deserve this place and they need to place so that they can be free of their stress and focus on learning.

My Project
As a school social worker I am responsible for equipping teachers and students with the tools necessary for emotional well being. These materials will allow me to create a therapeutic environment that will serve as a retreat as well as a learning environment for our most vulnerable students. Books and therapeutic games provide a fun and engaging means of learning new skills and interacting with peers. My goal is to use these supplies to reach all students and achieve their social emotional and behavior support goals as outlined in their IEP as well as students in the general education setting.
