it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I work with a diverse group of middle school students who face various academic and behavioral challenges. Many of them experience emotional dysregulation, attention difficulties, and stress, both in and outside the classroom. Despite these challenges, they are eager to learn, connect, and thrive when given the right environment and tools.
My students are curious, creative, and full of potential.
They just need the right supports to help them access learning and regulate their emotions throughout the school day.
I am creating a Reading and Mindfulness Corner to serve as a quiet retreat where students can calm down, reflect, and engage in self-directed reading and mindfulness activities. This space will support both academic and emotional development.
With your help, I would like to provide comfortable seating (bean bags, cushions, or floor chairs) in addition to bookshelves and a diverse collection of books focused on social-emotional learning, mindfulness, and inclusive stories
The Impact:
Creating this space will benefit students in multiple ways:
-Encourage a lifelong love for reading by making it a peaceful and personal experience
-Promote emotional regulation through mindfulness practices
-Reduce classroom disruptions by offering a designated space for reset
-Support trauma-informed practices and restorative approaches to behavior
When students feel emotionally safe and regulated, they are better prepared to engage in learning. This Reading and Mindfulness Corner will be a vital part of their academic and personal growth.
