My Project

Our students are kind, caring and thoughtful. This year, we need many opportunities to experience how to feel our emotions and strategies to calm our minds and bodies.

When students are emotionally regulated and all basic needs are met, they can soak up and retain information or learn.

Research shows that a calm mind is a mind ready to learn.

The tools in our project can help students identify their emotions by reading a new book, taking a break by coloring, squeezing a stress ball, feeling comfortable in a new chair and just trying things that help them regulate. There are many different options students can choose from to help them.

In our classroom, we currently have a calming corner. Many students use it as a way to identify their emotions, reflect, take a break and then return to learning when they are ready. With the items in this project, we can add resources to our calming corner.
