Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Autism has no boundaries and keeping students with this disability calm and motivated requires a lot of sensory activities. Sensory stimulation varies according to the student. Some students attend to task such as 3-5 piece puzzles or matching colors while wrapped in a body sock or in weighted vests. Others need highly active activities like the gripper bean bags to hold on to while sitting for 3 minutes in circle time or while learning to request items using their Picture Exchange Communication books. We use a variety of items for the children to sit on while tending to task, such as therapy balls, vibrating cushions and floor cushions. Some children with autism have a difficult time with lights. Sensory light objects would help them learn to cope with lights. The tangle light item we are requesting would also help with their fine motor skills. Sensory items are used by the occupational and speech therapist in my room. Sensory items improve the overall attention span of our children while calming them down. Autistic children are special and they are capable of great progress with the right tools.
