My school is a Title I school, which means the majority of our students come from lower income families. The kids I teach are smart, brave, funny, creative, wonderful students who love to learn! They are also typical second graders who need to move around and learn best when they are engaged and active.
We are part of a larger school community that celebrates a growth mindset and the differences that make each of us unique.
I want my students to feel comfortable to make mistakes, learn, and grow into the amazing potential they each have.
My Project
Learning can't take place until students feel safe, calm and loved. Harsh lighting can provoke anxiety in some children, especially those who face challenges outside of the classroom.
These light covers will keep my students calm and help them focus on learning!
In addition, clutter in the classroom can create anxiety. The mailbox will help to keep student work organized. Each student will have their own space for their things, allowing them more ownership over their learning and reducing the anxiety of a lot of clutter around.
Finally, additional wobble cushions will allow more freedom of movement and seating choice, helping each student find their ideal learning spot.
My students are smart, funny, resilient, wonderful kids who deserve a serene, peaceful classroom. My hope is to create an atmosphere where each of my kids feels secure and loved, so they can focus on becoming the best they can be. These light fixtures will help to soften the lighting in our classroom and create a cozy learning environment.
