Help me give my students increase their level of collaboration, communication, and interaction with flexible seating. Comfortable alternatives to sitting on chairs will improve overall focus in my special education students.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are inquisitive, eager young learners. Ranging from 5 to 6 years old, they are natives of the Caribbean Islands, Central America, and South America. My students have a pulsating thirst for gaining new skills and knowledge. They put 101% effort into all of their work, even when confronted with obstacles. When confronted with a challenge, class 1-2 likes to say it is “coo-coo bananas,” and tackle it as a united front. With every success, no matter how big or small, the students “kiss their brains” and “hug their hearts” for a job well done.
My Project
My students have sensory needs that require them to move around with ease during a lesson. I offer plenty of time to "get our sillies out," dance and exercise throughout our day. However, it can be difficult for my students to stay seated on the hard floor or hard metal chairs during instructional time.
Flexible seating allows students to find comfortable positions throughout the classroom.
Stools and comfy cushions and bouncy balls will adjust to their needs. Furthermore, it will encourage my students to make decisions that benefit their learning style the most. We will begin to implement these seating options as soon as this project is sponsored. A simple change that will make such a difference-- all in the seating!
