My Project
Thank you for considering my project! As a second-year Speech and Language provider, I am always trying to incorporate sensory materials into my sessions because they help create a supportive, engaging, and effective learning environment.
Sensory materials play a crucial role in regulating children during speech therapy sessions by supporting their ability to focus, manage emotions, and engage in therapeutic activities.
Many children, particularly those with sensory processing challenges, autism, or ADHD, can become either overstimulated or under-stimulated in a therapy setting. Sensory tools help them achieve a calm and alert state, which is essential for learning.
These materials also promote self-regulation by providing the sensory input children need to stay grounded and attentive, allowing them to better participate in speech tasks that may otherwise be frustrating or difficult. Sensory materials are also useful for easing transitions between tasks and helping children maintain a sense of routine and structure throughout the session. Altogether, incorporating sensory elements into speech therapy enhances not only regulation but also overall therapeutic success.
