This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students walk into our classroom every day with smiles on their faces, ready to learn, and excited to be in the classroom. The students that I teach are in a preschool program in Michigan where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Many of my students' families receive other finanical services from the state.
They struggle with the problems of poverty such as how to feed and provide clothing for their children. The families in the program receive free preschool based on qualifying factors that the state has determined make these children at risk for not graduating high school. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful!
My Project
At the beginning of the school year, preschoolers are just starting to learn how to express their emotions. Sometimes it is hard to control these emotions, especially when they are experiencing so many new changes. The materials that I have selected for my project are a variety of items that will help my students learn to gain control of their own feelings. The language builder emotion cards will be used to teach them about feelings. The sensory ball set, theraputty, and gel sensory beads will be put into our alone zone, a place in our classroom where children can go when they need a break (most of the time because of anger or sadness) and need to be alone. The monster feelings flannel board set will also allow them to express how they are feeling. My students also need flex safe wobble cushions to help them control their bodies while attending large group activities.
