Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are so cool! Their brains are wired differently than your average bear and their bodies need different types of regulations so they can feel safe, think clearly, experience calm, and be comfortable. Now here is the cool part--their bodies automatically seek out this regulation to get what they need! They naturally seek out tight hugs, spinning on the carpet, climbing up high, swinging on monkey bars, and soothing sounds and lights to help them regulate their bodies and emotions. I want to help them continue to do that!
My students' super cool neurodivergent brains seek out comfort and regulation through tight squeezes and hugs, calming visuals, and calming movements--that's why our calm-down area needs a revamp--I want this area to meet my students' needs better!
By adding a sensory seat that will provide compression and pressure in a gentle way, a cute weighted stuffed animal friend to tell their worries to and pet while receiving the pressure input their brain desires, and a calming moving sand sculpture, my students will have a calm down area that truly meets their special needs in order to calm down!
