Calm Down Corner for a Stronger Classroom Community!

My Project

I am striving to give my students a hands-on learning experience in second grade. In our classroom, we are wanting to implement a calm down corner to help students have a safe place to process emotions, build a stronger classroom community, and provide opportunities for not only self-regulation, but peer role modeling of processing and listening to our emotions.

The materials will significantly impact the learning in my classroom by providing hands-on tools for my students to be able to improve their self-regulation skills and better process emotions.

The calm down corner will have items to help students take a short break from instruction to focus on their mental health and well-being. The timers and sensory puzzles and items will allow students a limited safe space to center their emotions and refocus themselves so that they can rejoin instructional time after a small break.

The project includes sensory and fidget items for those busy hands to use during instructional and listening times. The sensory fidgets and trinkets will provide my students with an opportunity to fidget while they learn! This will help us to build a classroom community in the classroom!
