My Project

Creating a classroom environment that is cozy and calm is beneficial for learning. Many studies show that the right lighting helps create an atmosphere that helps kids focus and is important for kids who struggle with sensory overload. Our classrooms have very bright lighting and I find that it is distracting to the students. Since the lights are not on dimmers, they are either fully on or fully off and never "quite right." Having light covers would help to soften the lights. The lighting would be more tolerable and decorative to create a better environment for learning. I have specifically chosen string lights that change colors in order to light the room appropriately. There are bright and warm options as well as colors to change for holidays and special events. The students will enjoy the variety. The "beachy" scenes that cover the ceiling lights give the kids a taste of summer and sun during the colder months and will be mood boosting. The water fountain will also help with focus, especially during our quiet reading time and fall right in place with the "beachy" theme. This will also enhance the learning environment. My students will benefit greatly from this change in the classroom.
