Most of my students have Autism and require sensory accommodations or frequent breaks throughout the day to manage their anxiety/stress. I have students on all levels of the Autism Spectrum and they receive social skills, life skills, and other communication services in my classroom. They are special and unique for their talents and academic strengths. Some of my students play the violin, take acting classes, and are academically gifted. However, some have very unique behavioral needs that require sensory breaks. I love working with this population of students as I have learned so much from them. I have learned to stay calm, relax, and enjoy life. I have also learned to appreciate all the blessings that I have been given as it is a gift to teach these students each day.
My Project
As an Intensive Social Communication Support Teacher, it is my job to provide a calming and stress relieving atmosphere within the school setting for my students with Autism to access throughout the school day.
My students will learn about Autism awareness, self-advocacy, organization, stress/anxiety management, sensory breaks and strategies, social skills, life skills and much more.
My students will have the opportunity to access our calm corner within our classroom to utilize sensory strategies and breaks throughout the school day to decrease their anxiety/stress level. I chose calming/soothing products to help give my students the ability to decrease their anxiety/stress and advocate for themselves when they are in need of a sensory tool or break.
My students are talented, unique, and often academically gifted. I am proud to teach such an amazing group of students. I appreciate any donations that your organization is able to provide to this deserving bunch of students. Thank you!
