Calm, Connect, & Grow: Social-Emotional Tools For 1st Graders

My Project

My first-grade classroom is a vibrant and diverse community where every child is learning to understand their emotions, build friendships, and develop self-confidence. Many of my students, including those with special needs, benefit greatly from hands-on tools that support emotional regulation and positive social interactions.

This project will provide essential social-emotional learning (SEL) materials such as calming fidget tools, and sensory items.

These resources will help students recognize and express their feelings, learn coping strategies, and practice empathy in a safe and supportive space. In addition, we're hoping to add a designated "Peace Bench" to our classroom-a welcoming space where students can go when they need a break, want to talk through a problem, or simply need time to reset and calm down.

The bench will serve as a safe spot for emotional regulation and peer problem-solving, encouraging students to express their feelings in healthy ways and practice conflict resolution. It will also foster independence as students learn to recognize when they need time and space to manage their emotions.

By funding this project, you'll be investing in the emotional well-being of next year's first graders, giving them the tools they need from day one to thrive socially and emotionally. These materials will create a nurturing classroom environment where every child feels seen, supported, and ready to learn.
