Calm Classroom Lighting and Coloring

My Project

I teach science in a room that was originally a sterile computer lab. I am being more mindful of my classroom environment and my student’s mental heath. My classroom needs some calming lighting options such as fluorescent light covers printed with plants and clouds, softer LED color-changing lights for the edges of the ceiling, and a color-changing mood lamp. My students who finish early also ask for me to print coloring pages, so I have added calming stickers, a variety of mindfulness coloring books and quality markers. Many of my high school students experience anxiety and I think all this will help. I teach science, so a few live plants will help lift moods and match the plants printed on the light covers.
