My Project
I have amazing students that come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. As a first year counselor in a Title I school, where we haven’t had a full time counselor, I am trying to build an office where students can learn how to manage the big feelings that can get in the way of classroom learning. I am starting from scratch, so there is a large office to fill with games, lighting, and art supplies. There are so many students that need a safe place.
My students face enormous difficulties at home and in their community.
Most parents are doing their best to provide for their children, but they struggle to provide basic needs. About half of the students speak a different language at home, so they come to school dealing with a lot. The supplies allow me to provide counseling that helps them deal with the challenges in their young lives, so they can focus on learning.
