Help me give my students sensory tubes, throw pillows, and other stress relief toys to use as tools to help regulate their emotions during the school day.
More and more children are coming to school with so much emotional baggage, and they come with academic needs that students didn't have before. Without the proper tools and resources, I cannot provide them with the support that can help them function in school. The solution is having a variety of resources in my class calm bin. It has served my students well for the last 6 years, but it needs an update and replenishment of some items.
With the calm bin, my students can write down or draw a picture of what’s upsetting them and put it through the mini paper shredder — banishing their worries.
With this, it will open a new door of opportunity for my students to first write or draw pictures on a piece of paper to express their feelings/emotions, then secretly if they prefer. Students can also choose to speak to me about their feelings before putting the paper through the paper shredder. This will allow me to counsel and guide them through their emotions.
In addition to the the mini paper shredder, the other requested materials are also for the calm bin in which my students can choose from a variety of materials to take a break from the situation.
Being a teacher is more than just teaching. It is important for me to also meet their emotional and psychological needs. With your help and support, I can provide additional support for my students who need more guidance in succeeding in school beyond the academics.
