This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach 9th grade ELA to students. My students come from many different backgrounds and are facing a number of life pressures in addition to entering high school. High school, as many of us know, can be a challenging time where students are discovering many things about themselves and the world around them. This can be mega stressful!
It is my hope that I can provide students with a space where they feel safe and comfortable.
By ensuring that I have different seating options such as wobble seats, floor cushions, and desks with kick bands, students will be able to calm themselves if they are feeling overwhelmed, or even if they just need to move around a little. With squishmallows (highschoolers love them!) students can have something soft to anchor themselves with.
I also like to make sure that my room is softly lit. Having lamps and light covers helps to keep the environment feeling calm and relaxed.
